Trekker,

I think the new Edge amp, the model .5 in the G series is using a Ice module, their web site does not explain that but I heard on the web so it must be true.  Also look at the size of the amp compared to all their other amps.

Thanks sl_1800.  So do this mean that their modular AV amps also use ICE amps?

Thanks.

I had the pleasure of heari a highly modded Nu Force 9.02 in MY sytem a couple weeks ago.  David Schulte, from  the Upgrade Co. (modded Clement Perry's Reimyo 777)and was very pleasantly surprised at the dynamics, extension, and soundstage of these amps.  David has further modded them since I last heard them.  I compared them to my Dodd 120's with metal base mullards, and bendix 6900's.  Very close, very interesting.  These BLEW away the stock amps, which I personnaly felt were too sterile sounding.

Anyway, I talked with David last night, and he is considering flying in for this comparison, or at least shipping them for the weekend.  So, there, I am excited to find out how others hear them, in another system.

Kevin's Exodus amps arrived yesterday.

The run through of the comparisons with a small group is this weekend but I believe that I will wait until the other two groups on the 25th and 26th have given their views before I post impressions, comments, and group favorites.

It will be interesting to see if there are the same favorites with each group.

Is there any chance that he has a stock pair of Ref 9.02s to compare as well?

Are there any details published on David's mods, including the price?

Thanks!

Danny, have you considered delaying the identification of the amps until after people have posted their impressions?  People would simply list their impressions of "amp A", "amp B", etc..  You could then post the identity of the amps after a week or so, when people are done posting their impressions.

I figured I'd collect their notes and evaluation forms then let them know which amps were which.

Brian, are you going to make it?

Well, the Lyngdorf Audio SDA2175 semi-digital amplifier arrived yesterday and I started playing it some this morning.

I'll once again restrain myself from giving any initial impressions, but in short, this is a very nice amplifier.

I ran the Epiphany 20/21's with all of these at the end of the week. That was fun. I have a lot of different speakers to choose from too, but the ones that really showed off the differences were the open baffle speakers that I designed late last year. These will be part of a new commercial product line later this year.

A small group of us did a run through this weekend with the amps that were here.

It was very easy to discern differences between them. Many differences could be heard in seconds.

I have spent a lot of time with each of them and have gotten a good feel for most of them. My personal preferences were exactly the same as the preferences of the small group that was here this weekend.

We listened to each amp with two or three different pieces of music and some music segments.

Some amps were clearly better in areas than others, but in general most of these are all very good.

The front end that I have on them makes all of them sound very good. It appears that the digital amps more than any others sound just like the signal that you feed them.

More later....

The big event is this Saturday.

Hey Guys,

I wanted to have my amps to this event but unfortunately being a brand new outfit and a one man operation ...well I have hit my limits.

I already have three amps out for review (TAS, StereoTimes, PFO) and the rest of my inventory is already sold. (not a bad thing).

However I fully intend to send Danny a pair of my forthcoming ICEcubes when they are ready.

I also plan to send that pair around the country for an in home demo tour.

Hey Ryan, I am sorry to hear that you won't be able to get a pair here before Saturday. I was looking forward to seeing those (and hearing them).

Danny,

I am still going to send you a pair of amplifiers and hopefully you will be able to use them for another audio meeting at a later date.  Or perhaps a second ClassD...    Just wish I had the resources and time to be everywhere I'd like to be.

Are you talking about the comparison, or Ryan sending an amp?

Yes, the comparison occurred, but those of us that attended and frequent AC are waiting for Danny to start a new summary thread before posting our own additional comments.  I think everyone would like to keep the comments in one place.

To my knowledge, Ryan has not yet had a chance to divert one of his touring amps.  I know that I'd like to hear it.

The various incarnations of switching mode amplifier technology seem especially prone to tweaking and custom implementations, especially since designers can focus on the power supply and amp modules separately.  Based on what I've heard so far, I'm only more curious to hear other options like the CI Audio D200, Kevin's upgraded Exodus amp, the production versions of some of the prototype amps we heard, some of Art's other options, a Red Wine Clari-T or similar (although my speakers aren't efficient enough to use them), some of the TACT amp iterations, and several others that I'm probably forgetting at the moment.
