I take back (most of) what I said about Slimserver/SB

I basically reworked my computer, installing XP pro (instead of home) and reinstalling all of my software (which I'm still doing -- you forget how much there is to install).  On my other configuration, I had constant problems where Slimserver and SB would hang.  I have no idea why.  Sometimes a reboot would fix this; othertimes, it would not.  On my current configuration, not one hang as of yet.  No problems, actually (though I do admit that I'm afraid to change settings; it seems as if changing settings is what brings in the bugs).

While I'd like to see a better interface for slim server, whatever problems I had with slim server/SB seem to be fixed by a complete reworking of my computer.  The extra 1 gig of RAM I bought might have helped, too.  XP pro may also be helpful, as could the RAID controller I installed and am running off of.

I did the same.  I was having HEAPS of trouble.  I reinstalled my "copy" of windows xp pro, and everything worked as advertised.  Glad you got it working!

Good for you.  Having more RAM certainly helps.

Thanks, it's all very strange and makes no sense.  Perhaps my old configuration had a program with a conflict with Slim Server?  I don't know, but now I'm happier than a pig in poop!

I thought mine was probably some program I had installed that was creating a server conflict.  Who cares though, all is well that ends well.

Fortunately I haven't reached that level of problems in my Win2k or XP boxes-I certainly had it often enough under Win98.  I think the longest I ever went without a reformat then was just over a year.

On the memory thing, I recently increased the memory on three machines to roughly 1 gig each after all were behaving sluggish.  The improvement was dramatic and substantial in each case (two started from 512MB, one was at 256MB originally).  Definately the best bang for buch computer upgrade.
