Another ribbon waveguide

I guess the ribbon waveguide isn't exclusive to VMPS. Looks to be a difficult tech though....

This appears to be much wider than our waveguide and opening at the bottom. Reminds me of the old Carlson enclosure.

I don't think it is opening at the bottom, I think that is the lighting.

Looks nice but they cross that ribbon really low

That's very interesting. I went to a guy's house once that had BG RD 75's. He had been working on making what I considered horn loading at the time but looked similar to these only smaller. One thing about Brian's waveguides is the outside of the waveguides are flat.

This appears to be a true waveguide like that used on the SP Technology
speakers applied to a ribbon with the same advantages resulting in a lower crossover point without power handling or distortion problems. See link for a better picture and some specs

From the pictures I suspect a translation error with regards to "dipole bass"
the enclosures do not appear to be an open back design.

regarding dipole bass, if you go here:

then click on Cravasse audio, (after clicking on English!)
and click on HI END 2003 in Frankfurt, then scroll to lowest image, you can just see at the back of the nearest speaker bass section what looks to be a protrusion which might suggest an enclosure shape like one used to house PHY drivers, sometimes, or like a cross section of a nOrh open back marble enclosure.
Strange that the light that gives it the Carlson look appears to be a fixed part of the design.

The Carlson characteristic Brian wrote of below is the flared opening, not the very bottom of the cabinet. The concept has been used similarly to flared ports to smooth out bass response.

These look a lot like Carvers AL-3's!

I really like the sonic balance of the AL-3. They crank up very nicely, and are always musical!
Wish Sunfire/Carver/BG'd bring back this lush wonder. Only us 'philes want 6' towers anymore.

Buying a used pair of AL-3's just seems like such a...project. First your ribbons blow, (about $1200 for replacements from Parts Express), then the woofer surrounds rot...and you end up spending $2000 on a very used project speaker.

That's why I've got VMPS RM40's. Very projecty! I'd say I prefer the tonal balance of the Carvers!

Thankfully I get to hear a set at my brother-in-laws' regularly.
Grass is always greener, though!

Can someone direct me to a good picture of the waveguide VMPS is using? I have not seen a picture that gives enough detail. Thanks.
