Chairguy and Cohorts: JVC RX-F10S Biamping Question

Hi Chairguy!

Today, I ventured out and attempted to biamp my main speakers with the F10. It works in DVD/DVR mode, but not in the higher resolution DVD Multi. I am using a Pioneer DV-563A as the source. I am using the surround outputs of the Pioneer to feed the DVD Multi Surround inputs of the JVC. Since playback works fine with DVD/DVR selected, I am stumpted when it doesn't work in DVD Multi. There is no output from the surround termonals in DVD Multi. Any helpful suggestions? I am DYING to get this to work. PLEASE HELP!

BTW, I am connecting my HSU sub via high level inputs driven directly from the speaker terminals of my SPEAKERS, not from the crapo spring clips of the receiver. This works well.

How be ya'?

I'm kinda' stumped on that one...is there a setting on the Pioneer to enable the discrete analog outputs to work? 'Cause, as I understand it (haven't actually done it myself), the JVC should operate in DVD Multi mode for however many channels you connect thru it's analog inputs.

The difference between the two settings DVD Multi and DVD/DVR isn't gargantuan, so don't sweat it as you toil away trying to get it to operate in DVD Multi mode.

Alas, my fan makes so much noise in my F10 now that I have put it aside for now. During the day when I'm working (and my computer fan is whirring and phonesa nd faxes rigning and buzzing - It's fine. But, for evening listening it was unbearable

It's great to hear from you, again!

Sorry to hear your F10 seems to be deteriorating in performance. Are you using AVA gear as a substitute? I have owned about 20 different pieces of Franks's gear going back 30 years or so. All great stuff! Both Dynaco and B&K have ripped off his designs in the past. He has had as many as 7 patents on a single amplifier. I would own all AVA gear if I could currently afford it!

If my F10 biamp mode works in DVD/DVR mode, shouldn't it also work in DVD Multi? Doesn't that suggest that the Pioneer output is working all right? Is there a speaker selection I need to make with the F10 that I can't figure out? It seems that MUST be the problem?

Hey FA!

Thanks for chiming in. Yep...that's exactly what I am experiencing, and it surely is frustrating. But, instead of four speakers, I am using 4 channels to biamp my fronts.

Bob (and Fab),

I'm away right now, my owners manual is 500 miles away, but it may well be setting the speaker selector up correctly. I think the default is 2.1 (fronts + bass module), so you need to add 2 additional surround speakers to have it output.

At least, that's what I remember in the deepest recesses of my brain having read the manual cover to cover many times.
