The SB includes a DAC onboard and it is pretty good, which is why the modded ones by Bolder & Redwine have had such good reports (with analog out). Digital output is quite good too because it has pretty damn low jitter, especially with a decent power supply, not the given wallwart, but there are a number of <$10 linear supplies on the market that some of us are trying out.
