O.K., so it's only the afternoon , but let it hereby be known that I do love my Druids...yes, those black and silver pointy monoliths that look like they would be more at home in Lyle Alzado's basement rec room than my desert toned livingroom with the dried rattlesnake skins and beautiful rocks I have found in the desert and carried home and placed on my little hearth...and no, I have not yet had the time to explore the bass possibilities of my dear Druids, like raising them up a bit from the floor, and so I'm running a (cheap) Athena subwoofer that my friend Rich lent me, and (Confession #1) it actually sounds really good. It doesn't sound too slow (like many would claim!), plus I can dial in the crossover and volume of the sub to suit my tastes...OK, so now you all must be thinking I'm an audiophilistine, and perhaps that is true, for here is my next confession (Confession #2)...
Some time ago, I acquired some...Radioshack Supertweeters, and I piggybacked 'em like you're supposed to on the speaker posts of the Druids, and set those little cheapies on top of my Druids...I must admit, they look like they belong there, cause they too are black and have a little silver pointy thing in the middle...and you know what?... it too sounds really good...ads some detail and fullness to the top end...yes, yes, I know, the Druids already have a supertweet, but I stuck my hairy philistinic ear up to it when it was playing, and only the tiniest of little scratchy sounds was emanating from my beloved ebony obelisks, while the Radioshack appendages had much fuller, louder scratchy sounds coming forth...OK, I know what you're thinking, this guy doesn't understand the SuperTweeter Phenomenon...but, yes, I know the Druid's tweet range is like, 22-25kHz, or something, and the RS bird
chirps at like, 8,000-25,000 Hz, so ok, I KNOW that, but my point being, with all respect to Sean at Zu, it sounds really really good.
Sometimes I point the tweeters at the back wall, or set them behind the speakers on the floor, but mostly I set the little things on top of my obsidian collonades and just, well, enjoy the music...now, I know these "confessions", if I may, perhaps may reveal me in a less than shining light here at the Audiocircle, and I now live in (slight) fear that a Zu truck may arrive at my desert domicile sometime soon to collect my prized and beloved raven pilasters, but so be it! The truth must be told, and I now lay these audacious statements before the circle and await my reprobation.
