A co-worker sent me a link to this video. It's a guy playing a pretty rockin version of Johann Pachelbel's Canon in D.

If you enjoy this style of neo-classical guitar playing, you should check-out yngwie malmsteen and joe stump.

CoooL !!

I once hear simular treatment given to JS Bach's Toccata und Fuge. It sounded like the way Ole' JSB would have wanted it to be played.

Technically, he's a good player and must practice a lot.  That was a very Prog Rock / metal version of Canon in D.  :)

The sweep picking technique is always fun to see.

Thanks for the link!

That's almost exactly what one of my co-workers said. Right after the "I wish I could play like that" comment. And he actually plays quite well.

The backing drums are pretty cheesy but clearly the guy can shred.  My personal classical-on-electric-guitar favorite is The Champs doing "Air On A G-String".  Beautiful.

In a similar vein here's some videos I came across a while ago with Guthrie Govan.  I guess he was demonstrating some new amp at a guitar shop.  He plays like a dozen different styles of music and tonalities all whilst just tweaking the guitar's knobs.  Pretty amazing.  Just like the Japanese guy, he makes it look so damn easy...

and yes, once again: cheesy MIDI backing.  Seems to be part of the whole shreddy scene.
