What is the foam in the wizzer cone of the Hemptones

I posted about my recent purchase at another forum and someone thought they were coax speakers. Having seen them in person I know its some kind of open cell foam or synthetic mesh something or other and I assume Louis has determined that it provides some desired effect of damping the wizzer cone. Just wondering if anyone had any more technical details.

Hi CJ Paul,
The foam dampens the wizzer on edge. This also has been used with various new Monocor drivers. Also gets rid of a peak in the mids.
Thanks again,
Louis

Thanks for the info. I guessed it affected the frequency response in some way via damping.
