Power supply configuration
« on: 18 Jan 2006, 07:47 am »
I,m very sorry if this has been asked before. I was looking at the psu section and noticed that the secondry supplies are centre tapped? Does  this need to be the case for this amp. If I link the grounds +ve and -ve together then tie this back to the main grnd would this be ok. And secondly, i have access to 300 va, 30v-30v secondries tranformers. Would this drop the overall output by much? I not really worried about exactly 100watts pr/ch.

Cheers

Brett,

That would be fine.

Your wording is a little misleading, however, so I should be clear;  there are two modules, each with its own bipolar power supply.

Looking at just one module (the other is identical), there are two secondary windings on the toroid.  The finish of one winding is connected to the start of the other;  this then is connected to STAR EARTH.

The other two wires are AC1 and AC2, and they connect to each side of the AC bridge on the power supply modules.

The DC outputs from each winding are then connected as negative top rail supply to positive of bottom rail supply - this connects to STAR EARTH.  The remaining wires, positive from top and negative from bottom supply comprise the positive and negative rail terminations respectively.

It's all essentially automatic if you follow the instructions and use the pcb supplied with the kit.

Hope this is helpful,

Cheers,

Hugh
