How much to upgrade Tempest to Extreme?

By the way... what's the difference between the standard and the extreme variant?

Odyssey website is very messy and lacking of information in that regard.

The extreme has a better (bigger?) transformer and an upgraded phono board. It is a noticible difference fron the stock Tempest.

OK! But maybe they had better explain it in the website!

The only clear fact from there is the extreme costing 300 $ more, hence it's supposed to perform better

Is there no way of getting a Tempest without phono stage?
I would like not to pay for a feature I'm not going tu use.

best bet is to call klaus-hes real honest and if the ex tempest wont do what your looking for he will tell you so-

as for the web sight

about a year ago klaus said he was going to get it up to date-BUT HES TOO DAM CHEAP

the Tempest extreme has a shielded german made Mumetal transformer and a Symphonic Line phono board and is the hot ticket if you like to listen to a highend turntable.thanks....WCW III

I have a Tempest w/out a phono stage. I assume he still offers it. By the way, I went with a partial upgrade - the transformer. Options I also was able to get include remote, HT bypass, and 2 sets of outputs.

I'm not well versed on pre-amps, as this is my first one, but there was noticeable improvement in my music relative to using my Anthem HT controller in analog bypass mode, especially with my solid state Sony 555ES SACD player. Improvements were much more subtle, if even noticeable, with my tube output sources.

I talked to Klaus today and have some info to post on the Tempest. I believe the prices I am posting are the retail prices.

Extreme 1: Upgraded Power Supply $250
Extreme 2: Upgraded phono stage $450

HT Bypass: $100
Basic Remote: $150

I wound up placing an order for a Tempest Extreme level 2 with HT Bypass & Remote plus a Stratos amp with the capacitor upgrade. In about 6 weeks I should be very happy.

I'm sure it will be well worth the wait, as I have both of them (except Extreme 1 instead). In my case, though, I had the Stratos a couple of years before getting the Tempest. Come to think of it, the Tempest is the last audio component I purchased, and it's been almost two years. Time for an upgrade
