Advice for matching my speakers to Panny SA-XR50
« on: 13 Jan 2006, 01:44 am »
I have the following receiver and speaker setup:

receiver SA-XR50
front speakers - 2 Mirage Omni 60
subwoofer - Celestion S20 (100w)

Questions:

Should I set the front Mirage spkrs to small and let the sub do from 100hz down?

Or, should I set the front Mirage spkrs to large and just have the sub do the last lower bit of the spectrum?  Will the fronts run full if set to large?

The S20 has variable crossover from 40-140hz and a toggle to switch between 12 and 24db slope.

As far as rear and center speakers, can I get away with not using Mirage (use something less expensive)?  If so what is a good and inexpensive match.

Thanks so much.

Sean

1. set the speakers to small, and the subwoofer's own crossover to max.

2. you can get away with using different surrounds, but the center speaker needs to match the Mirages (same range is best) otherwise you might notice the sound change when it pans from left to right

When you say max, do you mean set it to the highest crossover point (140hz) at 24db slope?

yes. if you are setting the xover on the receiver, the subwoofer won't receive signals above 100Hz anyway (depending on the internal xover slope)
