Problems with hybrid SACDs?
« on: 7 May 2003, 01:58 pm »
I just bought 2 hybrid SACDs this evening and they don't work in my cd player and dvd player.   :(   Has anyone had this problem before with hybrid SACDs?  The 2 hybrids are The Rolling Stones "Hot Rocks 1964-1971" (by abkco records) and Pink Floyd "Dark Side of the Moon" (by EMI).  My Cary cd player will read the TOC but won't play any tracks.  My Toshiba dvd player won't read the TOC at all.

I have another hybrid SACD - Andrea Bocelli "Sentimento" (by Philips), which works fine.

Thanks.

I have both of these recordings and haven't had this problem.  Both will play in my Jolida cd player and SACD in my Pioneer player.

As an aside, DSOTM in SACD 5.1 surround sound is fantastic.

Is your DSotM cracked?  Sounds like most of are!  No cracks on mine, yet, but I've only played it a couple times so far.

Just my luck that both of the hybrids I bought don't work.     They work on the Pioneer dvd player in my bedroom.

My DSOTM is not cracked.  Yet.

Jay,

Was just going to ask if you still had your Pioneer. Guess you got to that  before I did.

So when are you going to try the SACD layer?...

My DSotM plays on my Pan. DVD player, and $40 Apex DVD player.

It's not cracked either, but I bought it used so I don't know which sticker it had on the wraper (if that really is the way to tell if it's bad or not).

Have people been cracking the disc themselves when pulling it off the case or did it come cracked? Out of fear I'm just keeping mine in a DVD case that has a push button release so the center of the disc never had pressure on it when removed. If that makes sense?

BTW... since a LOT of people obviouly have this SACD/CD could someome comment on my 'SACD/DVD-A within CD limits...' thread (which focuses on this and the Rolling Stones SACD's)?

Kirk @ Cary replied that an SACD is closer to a DVD than a CD.  It doesn't help me understand why my Cary will not read the CD layer of these 2 hybrid SACDs, not why my Toshiba 2109 dvd player won't read it.

I tried the Rolling Stones hybrid SACD on a Pioneer DV47Ai universal player, and it was able to read and play both the SACD and CD layers.

I also did a very quick comparison the SACD and CD layers and will post on the other thread.
