Does anyone have this CD receiver installed?  Can you compare it to other decks?  (not compared to the stock radio in the car but, to other aftermarket HU's.)

You can see it at http://www.nakusa.com.  It replaces the CD-45z which I was considering a year ago.  I have found one person that has installed this radio on another forum but, just thought I'd ask here.

I can find them around $350 which is a lot of dough for car audio.  So, just trying to search around for more answers.

Thanks!

Brad

I had a CD45z for about 6 months until it got stolen.
It had very good sound, but not quite as good as the McIntosh I had before that (which also got stolen)

Output voltage was high and it did a good job of driving my amps.

If $350 is high, take a look at the CD-700 Nak....

350 seems like a bargain after some of the stuff I've been looking at... It appears the CD-400 is kind of mid-fi comparatively.   :o  I knew car audio could get pricey, I just never thought I'd be the one buying it.  It's car audio...

The CD400 is the best solution for my car and my purposes so, I'll probably just get it (in the next few months)...   I was hoping to find something under 200 that looked clean and simple and matched my interior.  That isn't going to happen.  It appears car audio is aimed at a demographic that craves shiny objects and flashy lights...

The only real problem I have with the Nak is that it could get stolen.  (I have a Miata, which is fairly easy to break into.)  I guess I could lug around the faceplate.... I'll need a belt like Batman with all other crap I carry around.   No one would steal the Bose that's in it now unless they're just stupid.... it's only a pre-amp that I've tapped into to power a different amp and speakers.

Thanks for the reply,
Carl

Carlman,

I'm in process of upgrading my stock audio system as well.  I've done some reading with no real comparo.  It's frustrating and tough to compare head units because they are demo'd in a dealer display, not in my car.  :-(

The three brands that keep coming up for SQ installs are

Nakamichi,
Denon,
and Eclipse.

Some recommend Alpine, etc, but most seem to like these three brands the best for SQ (though you do tend to lose out on some features).

I'll probably go with Eclipse.  They have an interesting theft deterrance system that I am HOPING most experienced theives know about.  You put in a CD (any audio CD), and that CD becomes the master CD for the system.  Once the deck loses power (i.e., it's been removed from the dash, the battery is disconnected, etc), you will have to re-insert your master CD to bring the deck back to life.  Only you, the owner, knows which CD is the master CD.  If I go Eclipse, I intend to keep my master CD in the house, not in the car.

Anyone know about this security system?  Is there a way for a wiley theif to circumvent it?

Regards,

John G
