This is a dang bright guy Bob Carver is.....but these specs are weird.  I don't know how it translates into real world sound, but a damping factor of 20 sounds really, really low....

Performance characteristics include the ability to deliver up to 1,040 Watts into 4 ohms with total harmonic distortion of no more than 0.5 percent. The amplifier also exhibits a frequency response of 2Hz to 80kHz (+0/-3 db), a noise floor 110dB below maximum output, a damping factor of 20, and the ability to drive load impedances from 2.7 to 32 ohms at full power without shutting down.

Specs rarely tell the whole story, however....

Not sure if this question can be answered since the unit is not avalible BUT I will ask anywayz
It is rated at 100 WPC X8
in a 5.1 set up will I be able to bridge the unit to give me 200 W X3 and 100 W for the 2 rears ?
Or could I use a Y conector from the preamp and split LCR so I would give 100W to the lows and 100w to the mids & highs
Thanks ~

Dinner with Bob

I had dinner with Bob Carver & a few other celebs at Las Vegas Friday night.  I heard nothing about an 8ch amp.  Someone at Sunfire recently mentioned a sixteen channel amp, but no 8.  Maybe the 8 is the predecessor to the Godzilla 16 beasty.

Bob is one of the nicest people you'll ever meet.  One time we started talking almost at the exact same moment.  Before I could shut up to let his Highness speak, he had already yielded to me, a complete nobody!  Such is the nature of the man, whom I respect very much.

My 5 ch Sunfire, at high levels, runs so cool it is hard to tell its on by touching it.  Has never hickuped in almost 2 years, great performer, lightweight, draws almost no current, it's a gem, like Bob!

In this case they might indicate he's going for that "toob amp" sound. :)
