What cd album etc have you listened to most in your life?

My music tastes have changed a lot over the past few years but there are a few that still get consistent play:

I grew up with R.E.M. and I would say that Murmur and Automatic for the People get by far the most play time still.  I love those albums (they sound great on vinyl too)

In the past couple of years I've pretty consistently have had Pet Sounds, Buena Vista Social Club, Dave Brubeck, Bob Dylan (Blood on the Tracks), Grant Green (Idle Moments) on hand.  There are others but I forget.  I listened to Bach's Toccata Fugue every night before I went to bed for about a month... I had always kind of written it off because it's so overplayed however that's because I only remembered the first few notes.  The rest of it is quite stirring and beautiful.

I'm hoping as I get older my tastes continue to improve and grow like fine wine.

Really????  Lets broaden some horizons without taking any psychotropics (aka mind altering drugs) .. :o

Check this out....http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/3823983.stm

Short quote:

Stone Roses 'top British album'

The Stone Roses' album beat the Beatles and the Rolling Stones
The Stone Roses' self-titled 1989 debut album has been voted the best British album of all time in a Sunday newspaper poll.

The Observer Music Monthly poll of 100 musicians and critics voted the album ahead of The Beatles' Revolver (1966).

The Clash's London Calling and Van Morrison's Astral Weeks took third and fourth place.

The Beatles and David Bowie led the list, both with five albums in the top 100 list.

The best thing about this thread IMHO is discovery.  I read others posts and do some exploring I'M 100% positive there's music/albums out there that I haven't heard

Love the thread.

Got to be
Eno: Taking Tiger Mountain (By Strategy)

Not only does this album get consistent play with me, but it's on my iPod, I have the original album release (US), the version in Working Backwards Eno compilation LP's, the regular CD release and the remastered release.

This is an album that can sit "forgotten" for a few months and when I pick it up again, I can fall in love with it all over again, like I've heard it for the first time. My kids and I have played portions of it on the portable organ, there's so many sharps and flats it's a real challenge.

It's 10 songs long, remastered it's 10 songs. No outtakes, no muss, no fuss. Falls between rock and instrumental and ambient and art rock, defies classification.

Radiohead - The Bends
These can be listened to anytime, kinda like comfort food.

When I had literally 5-10 LP's, I listened to them religiously.  Thus, my list will be pretty much those LP's from the late 70's and early 80's that occupied my spare time during that time.  I can only think of a few others that I have recently listened to like crazy:

Billy Joel Glass Houses
Journey Escape
Billy Joel The Stranger
Boston
Boston Don't look back
Beatles Red Album greatest
A Tribe Called Quest The low end theory
Duran Duran Notorious
New Order Substance
Blur Greatest Hits
Hall & Oates Rock N Soul Part I
Heifetz playing Beethoven Violen Concerto in D
Beastie Boys Check Your Head
The Clash The story of the Clash
Depeche Mode Music for the Masses
Beatles Rubber Soul
Beatles Help
Fleetwood Mac Rumours

Good question that brings back good memories :D  ...I still remember the very first lp I bought, and with my "very own" money....
    [/list:u]
That was 1964...the British Invasion...The Beatles were no. 1....they (and others to follow) were all over the Ed Sullivan show. :guitar:
At that time I had a Magnavox all-in-one "record player"...folded up like a suitcase. Drop down TT....fold out speakers on the sides....you were ready to rock....now that was high end...   [/list:u]
I'm a long way from that now....and with alot more music...[/list:u]
Back to the question...I'll pick five that still give there all...and that I still enjoy hearing...[/list:u]
    [/list:u]
      [/list:u]
        [/list:u]
          [/list:u]
            [/list:u]
No...their not new....but I never get tired of hearing them...and their the one's I've listened to "the most" in my life. [/list:u]
Long Live Rock And Roll......... :guitar: [/list:u]

Actually, all of this Stone Roses talk has me pulling out the CD for my ride to Levi's on the subway.  "Fools Gold" indeed!  See everyone at the Rave!

Pulled out my one and only Blur cd Leisure (US). Decided to 'update' my collection of them somewhat...Decided on the one represented in your  Avatar.

Get this I didn't even realize Song 2 was the BLUR....Oh SHAME ON ME!!!

Listened to the stone roses self titled album last night....WOW... Go and treat yourself to "THE VERY BEST OF THE STONE ROSES" CD completely remastered and remixed from the reviews WORLDS better than the original.....of course all the songs aren't on there, but a few good ones added

I ordered it from amazon along with "BEST OF BLUR" last night...CHEERS

              srx04-

I have both and they are great.  The Stone Roses does have better sound, though I'm trying to find the original debut on LP, so I can get rid of this tin sounding CD.

The Best of Blur- one of my favorite albums ever.  Got me completely immersed in the Blur, britpop world.  Great hooks, super melodic, and very diverse- like an updated Beatles.  I guess I should amend my list, as Best of Blur has been one of my most listened to albums of the last 5 years.

              Enjoy,
              Michael

              Michael,

I'm hoping the new remastered Very best of the stone roses along with my squeezbox 3 (soon to be modified via red wine audio) will give good sound. The accessabilty and performance of the box is awesome.

I downloaded some gorillaz too...very different as expected from Damon, gotta love the creativity.

Ok, listened to the Stone Roses Best of at the NY Audio Rave today- played Fools Gold and it sounded pretty good.  Having heard a squeezebox, I'm sure it will sound fine on your rig.

The Gorillaz stuff is interesting- some of it is really good (the first album is more solid IMO), though I don't think it reaches the brilliance of some of Blur's best albums, especially Great Escape, Parklife, and the incomparable Modern Life is Rubbish.  However, I've got to give it up to Albarn for constantly changing his sound and pushing the envelope of what is pop music, etc.

First album ever purchased:  Kiss Destroyer in 1978.   Being raised in a strict environment where rock music was not permitted, I snuck this album home in my sweatshirt after buying it at the "Wax Museum".  Had to give the album covers away on the bike ride home to fit the vinyl in said sweatshirt...left it out in the garage until I had a chance to sneak it in the house and play it when no one was around.
