Hi everybody!

On the official CES 2006 web site I just came accross the new products listed for Bryston there. Among the much discussed and anticipated SP-2 and the Torus products they mention the "28B Mono Amplifier". (http://cesweb.org/attendees/show_floor/product_locator/product_details.asp?prodid=7701) :o

Is that a typing error, a hoax or does Bryston have the ultimate amplifier in the pipeline that even tops the 7B/14B :?:

Well, speculating about new products is a fun thing to do... could the 28B be the monaural version of a 14B SST?

James, could you please clarify...

Cheers

This would be the new king dog according to online posts:

Quote
Bryston's stout new 28B-SST monoblock ($13,500/pair) will produce in excess of 120A of current in addition to its 1200 watts into 8 ohms. It's also the biggest Bryston amp we've ever seen.

Of course you'd want to bi-amp with those.

Did you look at the photo of the amp on the soundstage site, though? There are two channel status lights.  The 7B only has one.  Maybe someone took a photo of something else?

Maybe the one in front is the 14B.
The one at the back is probably the new model. it is certainly not the 14B. Look at the bank of capacitors - ouch !

Hi,

THe MONO 28B SST is 1200 watts at 8 ohms 2000 at 4 ohms. It will drive into 2 ohms with ease and sounds excellent on my IB2's at home.

We are building orders for delivery at the end of January.

Dear James,

whahwahw You already have them at home...:D great!! :D I already suspected something like that :D

Just because I'm gurious. What is the weight of one amp? How high is the dampingsfactor?

How do they sound in comparison with the 7BSST? What is significant better?

Best Regards,
Bas

HI Sebastiaan,

Weight - I almost got a hernia lifting it on to the stand at the show - 110 pounds. Damping minimum 500.

It is essentially a mono version of the 14B and I have always felt the bigger amplifiers have a greater sense of control and ease even when used at lower levels. The micro dynamics and listening into the sound stage are really superb. A 7B on 'steroids'.

Dear James,

Thank you for your response :) I starting to collect money by now ;) (yes it is really the truth :D)). My girlfriend gonna kill me because I gonna kill our vacation for it ahahha :D :D

I hope there are more pictures somewhere soon. Till now I only saw the impressive inside and the backside.

Yes finaly bi-wire terminals! A must to have for me, because my loudspeakers system excist of 4 sections and you have to wire them seperatly. You can imaging what a living hell it is now to put them all in one terminal of my 7BSST :D

Best Regards,
Bas

HI Bas,

Uploaded a new picture of 28B to the Gallery - it is me at the show with the 28B - still shows the back of the amp. The front is the same as the 14B SST.
