Any ill-effects of bridging a bryston amp
« on: 29 Dec 2005, 03:27 am »
does bridging any of the bryston amps deteriote its sound quality compared to not bridging it ?

ex: would a pair of 3bsst bridged sound better than a single 4bsst non-bridged ?

thanks.

Hi fld,

When you  bridge an amplifer you get more Voltage swing but you must be concerned with the fact that the amplifier 'see's' one half the impedance of the loudspeaker. The lower the impedance the more current draw.

So if your driving an 8 ohm nominal speaker the amp now drives a 4 ohm load. If the speaker is a 4 ohm load it 'see's' a 2 ohm load.

We usually recommend bridging the amps into 8 ohms is OK but not 4 ohms.
