I haven't gotten any of these yet:   any comments

Kanye West   "Late Registration"  rap
Rodney Crowell "The Outsider"  alt-country
Brian Setzer "Rockabilly Riot Vol 1"
Kate Bush  "Aerial"
John Legend "Get Lifted"  R&B/Hip-hop
Paul Wall "The People's Champ"  rap
Mike Jones "Who is Mike Jones"  rap/hip-hop
Bruce Springsteen "Devils and Dust"
Belle & Sebastian "Push Barman to Open Old Wounds"  pop
Depeche Mode "Playing the Angel"   synth-dance

I am definitely going to get the Brian Setzer, the Rodney Crowell - and either the John Legend or the Kanye West.

You know, music is just like speakers/interconnects/amps -- one size never fits all:

This guy gives the Setzer CD two of five stars.  However, I might pick that and the Springsteen CD up.  And maybe Rodney Crowell. Who's Kate Bush?  I'm off to do research!

I haven't heard Kate Bush in a while, but she used to sing in a really high soprano voice - not my cup o' tea, but one of my friends used to love her music.

I've been a Brian Setzer fan for a while, so I'll try that one regardless of the reviews.  He puts on a good show too.  Saw him with full orchestra back in '98 in Houston, then again with 3 piece band in '01 in Tahoe.

I was thinking I was due to buy some new music - and that article in this morning's paper prompted me to do something about it.

Who is Kate Bush?!?!

She's sort of a British antecedent to Tori Amos.  Only hotter.  CHeck her out: http://gaffa.org/wow/k49.jpg

I have a lot of these albums.  I agree with:
Kate Bush--has outdone herself
Mike Jones-damn good hip hop/rap album if you can get past the attitude.
Bruce Springsteen-a reference-quality CD for music and sound quality

Disagree with:
Kanye West--there's only one good track on the album.
Paul Wall--not my type of music at all
Depeche Mode--one or two songs I like only.

Notables I would recommend without reservation:
Feist
Martha Wainwright
Emiliana Torrini
Keren Ann
Katie Melua

Ohh man thats ugly.

Brian Setzer
Bruce Springsteen
Depeche Mode
& the 'conpiracy theorist'

Pick up one of these sometime  http://www.thewire.co.uk/  Not a bad starting point for music not sold at Wal Mart.

I'm always on the look out for good quality rock music.  Is the sound quality near audiophile levels?

I've recently bought a few duds recently and i'm trying to be selective at the moment.

I am listening to Devil's and Dust on Rhapsody (yeah it is "free" for 25 songs haha, I am not buying a subscription) and it on this POOR POOR medium media already screams audiophile grade CD. I want to buy it....

Any one want to compile a list of audiophile grade Rock CD's? I too am always on the look to consider them first. Not that I really know which ones are most of the time.

Oh yeah I think Mike Jones sucks. If you want to listen to real talent rap you got to go back to late 80's and early 90's. (Fat Boys, Skinny Boys, Grandmaster Flash, NWA, Public Enemy, Easy E etc....) They are from the days when a rapper was still known as an MC and had to have talen as one. That came from the fact that MCs aka "rappers" where originally just to introduce and hype up the DJ, the real definition of an MC. If a rap group does not have a designated DJ they are a disgrace and suck.

Check out the video for Devils and Dust. Perhaps the song does not mean a lot to non-christians but it is good any how. I hope it wins a grammy.

There's two I'd put on your list...not new...but the sound quality is excellent, as is the music.[/list:u]
Ben Harper - Fight For Your Mind[/list:u]
        Morphine - Cure For Pain[/list:u]
These two cd's have seen plenty of action at the Rave's (NYAR).[/list:u]
            And...dare I say...not a lousy track on them.... :D [/list:u]

I found the John Legend at WallyWorld - some decent songs on it - definitely different than my normal listening habits and some good humor in it, too.

Getting the Rodney Crowell and Brian Setzer this afternoon.....
