Now everything is here, and once the next few Holidays are over, I'll be back in town to solder in the transformer connections, RCAs and Lundahl step-ups, and then I'll be playing the Cornet.  I had ended up ordering some Mills resistors (along with Rikens), did not realize how small the Mills are!  I'm using a 2 ohm 5 watt Mills MRA-5 for R21 (2ohms because I've done the CCS mod.)  The body of the Mills is at least a third the size of the usual white ceramic power resistors, like the one I used for R22 (just a run of the mill from Mouser.)  The Mills MRA-5 is rated MRA-5 (5 watt power rating), and according to Sonic Craft's site, will "handle overloads 5X its power rating (25 watts) for 5 seconds with operating voltages up to 500 VAC."  The body has an alumina ceramic core with Nickel-Copper element (it that means anything.)  I guess the very small size of the resistor (when compared to the usaul white ceramic power resistor) has me feeling a little cautions, but with the specs given for it, I should be ok in R21, no?

And....Happy Holidays to all!

I tell you what, solder it about 1/4 inch off the board.  The resistor can handle the extra heat, the board cannot.  At 90C the fiberglass starts to yellow.

jh :)

Thanks Jim.  I also got confimation at Audioasylum that all would be well.  I soldered the resistor closer to a 1/2 inch above the board, plenty of space.  The other power resistor, the .22 ohm one, is a standard withe ceramic bodied Xicon, that has less space (a little more than 1/8th inch above the board), that should hopefully be enough space to allow some air flow around the resistor and not cause any scorching of the board, right?
