I tried to touch all the bases.  For the top 10, the 2 small run cd’s may be replaced by any of the Honorable Mention discs as those are at least 1000 + pressings.  I wasn’t sure how hardcore I should get about the little detail of availability. I own all of these………

Ok, you've come up with a list where I've never heard of any of them.  Who are these people?  What type of music is this?

I've never heard of any of those bands either but I'm a little out of touch with what is popular now. Are these popular bands now? If you don't mind, How old are you Deansheen? I'm at work and allmusic is blocked for some reason.

Also, Lonewolf, when do you sleep? I know you're in NY and you've been posting all night.

Thanks for the link!  It's nice, as you can listen to the band's music (although I'm now at work, where I have no speakers; have to wait until I get home).

Hi guys, to answer an earlier question I'm 35.

Samples of most of these bands can be found at Aquariusrecords.org  I happen to have a very good independant record store here www.bentcrayon.com  In addition, I follow several blogs, update lists and have good college raido here in town.

Some of this is more sounds than bands, but I'll repost the original with some short takes since there seems to be some intrest.

Going to see Sigur Ros for the 3rd time in Feb at an small theater.  The new one is really orchestral like in scope.

    Year End List

    1. Earth – Hex or Printing in the Infernal Method – (Southern Lord)

West coast guitar 2 piece. Best known for creating the first doom record, EARTH2 which is comprised of detuned dueling guitars.  The inspriation behind SUNN0 a wildy popular dueling bass guitar drone duo.  This is a departure from their original sound and 1st album in 9 years.  Hex focuses on acoustic guitars, steel guitar, and banjo.   No lyrics, just wide vista Wild West tumbleweed loneliness with a country flavor.

    2. Wooden Wand and the Vanishing Voice – Buck Dharma - (5RC)

Another West Coast act.  Part of the new Folk movement where the Folk is more a reference to 'people' than a Folk sound though there are elements of that here.  Off time compositions made with acoustic insturments.  File under new hippy stoner chill.

    3. Skullflower – Orange Canyon Mind – (Crucial Blast)

UK project of Matthew Bower.  1st release in a long time and a return to their roots.  Skullflower best know for early 90's wall of sound guitar feedback rock oriented riffage.  Tense mammoth meanderings.

    4. Alva Noto & Ryuichi Sakamoto – Insen – (Raster-Noton)

Alva Noto is one half of the founder of the Raster-Noton label in Germany best known for releasing minimal techno acts with the emphasis on the techno.  Ryuichi Sakamoto is an old time Japanese musician that spent years in various Japanese psych bands of the 70's I believe, best known one was Yellow?  This is Noto doing electronic sounds and Sakamoto playing piano.  Peaceful and suprising in it's effectiveness.  They did a 8 city orchestra hall tour in Eurpoe that I would have loved to see.  This is their 2nd collaboration.

    5. DE9 (Richie Hawtin) – Transitions – (Novamute)

Richie Hawtin is a well known DJ in Europe. A  super DJ that plays to very big spaces.  This is a DVD/CD set.  The DVD explains the piece, which basically focuses on the transitions between tracks when a DJ is spinning.  Kinda minimal techno chill wizardry.

    6. Coil – And the Ambulance Died in His Arms – (Threshold House)

A live piece recorded at the All Tomorrows Parties 2003. Coil is a UK duo that has been around forever making various types of sounds.  Hard to desribe.

    7. Grey Daturas/Yellow Swans – Silver/Copper (Jyrk) *ED 200

Grey Daturas is a 3 piece power trio from Austrailia.  Sounds at times like Bardo Pond, others like Spacemen 3.  3 piece heavy rock Jams.  Yellow Swans are a 2 piece from San Diego that focus on loud analouge synth jams.

    8. Birchville Cat Motel – Chi Vampires – (Celebrate Psi Phenomena)

On of the many bands of NZ's Campbell Neal.  This is a louder piece that uses mostly bagpipes and heavy guitars as the basis for the tracks.

    9. Kemialliset Ystavat - Kellari Juniversumi – (Fonal)

Finnish NEU folk collective.  Spends the winter nights jamming freeform then selects the best bits for release.  Kinda like putting a bunch of hiippies in a room each with an insturment and the freedom to vocalise.  Result is suprisingly good.

    10. Iovae – Civilization- (SNSE) *ED 500

Cinicnatti noise artist.  File under loud.

    Honorable Mention

Skygreen Leopards – Jehovah Surrender – (JaguwarJaguwar)

You guys would probably love this band.  West coast group that does retro hippy happy postive rock songs.  When you hear it, it sounds like lost 70's radio hits that your forgot about.

Sigur Ros – Takk – (Geffen)

Icelanding 4 piece.  This is their fourth album.  Check 'em out.

Tod Dockstader – Aerial #2 – (Sub Rosa)

Oldschool sound artist.  Soure material is intercepted shortwave transmissions stretched out and manipulated on a PC to create these compositions.

    Hototogisu – Green (Heavy Blossom)

Another side of Matthew Bower along with Marcia Basset of Double Leopards.  This duo's intent is guitar driven noise.  Green has some black metal influences and will probably drive your pets and family running for the power button the cdp.

    CDeRatta

    AXOLOTL / YELLOW SWANS / GERRITT - s/t - (Jyrk)

Power electronics, low end drone collage.

    Raccoo–oo–oon – Cave of Spirits – (Time-Lag)

Band from IOWA that does stuff reminds me of like Free Jazzish.  But I dont listen to Jazz so thats probably not right.  Traditional insturments, basement jams.

    Bonus – Gosurorri – (Jyrk)

Seatlle sound duo.  Tones on top of tones.

Hototogisu – Sardonic Wooden Moonlight – (Heavy Blossom)

    Re-releases of Note:

Nurse With Wound - Soliloquy for Lilth 3CD box - (JNANA)

Long time project best know for tape loop cut up sound collage pieces.  This is his seminal work, comprised a few sparse tones looped togheter and around each other to create a long journey into inner space.  Gorgeous.  With bonus disc.  First released in 1989 I think.

Dove Yellow Swans – Live During War Crimes (comp of oop titles) – (Release the Bats)

West Coast power electronic duo release their ltd. run pieces on one compl

    Maurizio – M-Series – (Basic Channel)

Oldschool minmal techno 12" compiled on CD.  Dub influenced minimal goodness.

    German Oak – s/t – (Radioactive)

1971 German prog psych band.  Their only release.  Recorded in a airplane hanger and the space adds cool reverb.  Extended 70's prog/psych jams.  Excellent.
