input/output pins?

hello all,

this might be a silly question, but im going to ask anyway and plead absolute ignorance as my excuse.
what is the best way to connect the input/output wires to these pins? are there plugs that i can use or just solder straight onto them?

Cheers, George

George,

Soldering is best;  they are silver pins, very easy to solder, and highly conductive.

Cheers,

Hugh

Hi Hugh,

You should add the word 'silver' in your part list. I though they are just normal steel pin and throw them into the bin.

I'm with Sam!

I ignored them and soldered the Cat5 direct to the board.....

well, soldering directly to the board is still 1 less junction and that's always going to be better.  but there's no harm in using them for convenience since they are good quality :)

I went back to using the pins

When building my GK-1 I ignored the pins and soldered all the I/O wires directly to the board... and then in subsequent cap-tweaking work I found that I was starting to lift some of the PCB pads to which I had soldered those direct wires.  For the long-term life of the GK-1, I put those pcb pins back in.  You can safely solder/desolder to the pins dozens of times with no effect on the PCB pads.

I might (or might not) be able to hear one more solder joint, but I can very definitely hear the sweet music that the GK-1 makes and (IMO) it's too much to risk for a small/marginal/possibly nonexistent benefit.
