Hi,

I am new to this so please help if you can,

Is it possibe to have a single pc or mac play more than 1 audio file at  a time?

What I would like is a multiroom wireless network that allows me to send different songs to different rooms at the same time.

Also is there any software that lets you create playlists that could be setup to work on a timer so that they play at specific times and dates?

I know there are dedicated audio servers out there but I was looking for a more affordable solution, without spending thousands.

Thanks
Raja

It's do-able in a number of ways that are complicated and would take more time to type than I'm willing to try.

The easiest solution is to use Slim Devices' 'Slimserver'.  The software turns a PC into a music server which is then accessible by the Squeezebox devices.  (Maybe other devices, I don't know.) You can play any song from the Squeezebox you want, with a remote... and independently of what the other SB's are playing.

If you have a wireless network, you can plop one of these in each location for $300 each, the software is free and the interface is great.

That's what I've decided to do.  There are other devices out there like the RCA Lyra that are much cheaper but have much less features or controls... and the SQ isn't quite as good.  The SB3 is by far the 'sexiest' solution. ;)

Thanks for the help Carlman, the squeezbox does seem a good solution for the price. I have a wirless router, so I could pursue this option.

But before I commit myself,

Does anyone know if it's possible to do something similar with a single mac and airport express, there would need to be software that allows to play more than one audio file at a time?

This would come in slightly cheaper than the squeezebox option.....

Thanks

I am successfully using multiple squeeze boxes with a single pc.  One nice feature of the slim server/squeeze box setup is that I can sync each SB and play the same song or I can play different songs at the same time.

Great software and products.

I have 3 PCs, each in different rooms, playing music from the external HD attached to my main desktop. I just load up Foobar on each and hit random, only  hitch is it appears if one PC tries to play a song that is already being played, Foobar stops. I am not sure if I am doing something wrong or if it is just not possible.
I haven't decided to investigate because I am moving to a SB3 setup. Man these things rock and with a good external DAC or a modded version from Wayne, it rivals most CD players I have heard.
Good luck
