Who is using the RM30C for center?
« on: 16 Dec 2005, 06:04 pm »
I'm considering 3 RM30's across the front and am curious about using the RM30C for a center.  With the 2 woofers located to one side and the super tweeter located to the far other side... how is the dialog balance?

I'm concerned that the mid-bass (below 166hz) will seem off centered during impact scenes being that it will not be directly centered under my screen.

Thanks!

I haven't noticed this (or movement of the tweeter to one side), but I also have my RM30 in the middle of my RPTV and matching rack, which means that the RM30 is slightly off kilter anyway.  In my case, my RPTV is to the left as I watch TV and the RM30 is to the right about a foot.

Oh... so the two woofers are not layed out as an RM30 main would be with both woofers on at the bottom, or in the case of horizontal placement, to one side... a misunderstanding on my part.

It will sitting on top of this cabinet (this is a bad pic angle... when seated the center speaker does not get in the way of the screen... the RM30 is actually not as horizontally tall as this one anyway)....

No, on mine. I was describing the wrong speaker! Don't mind me; my wife cracked up her car yesterday, and while everyone's fine, the event left me a llttle distracted.  :o

lol... okay... but it seems it's not an issue anyway.  I suppose VMPS wouldn't sell them that way if it was huh?

I was wondering what Scott was describing!  If you take the cover off the speaker,  it is strange to see the woofers on one side and the tweeter on the other side.   However, in terms of sound, I don't notice this. That stand should support 100 pounds, but be prepared that the RM30C is a huge center channel.  I had to laugh when replaced my Linn 5120 -- which  I thought was a great center by the way -- with the RM30c, which is twice as wide and twice as deep.

Yeah... I think it's gonna hang off the back a few inches and at 48" will take up nearly all of the cabinet width... about 6-8" left over on each side.

So is there a pad they make to sit it on or should I just pick up something like some neoprene and cut it to fit between the cabinet and speaker?

I have mine on rubber bumpers, but I can't remember the name of them.
