Great AND affordable cables......
« on: 16 Dec 2005, 01:23 am »
In the past it was easy for me to recommend cost no object IC's like the Bolder Summits and speaker cables like Ridge Street Audio.

In the more recent past it was easy to recommend what I consider great but affordable speaker cables in the Greg Straley Reality cables.

Up until today, I did not have a "realitively" inexpensive GREAT IC that I could recommend..that has now changed.

SAS Audio Labs has a great IC that is $140/1M pair.

These are as good a sounding IC as any that I have heard in my system.

They mate well with my Ridge Street speaker cables.  These will be staying in my system.

Anyone can buy a great expensive wine, the trick is to find a great inexpensive one...my pappy used to say.

I don't know if you find IC's at $140/1m pair inexpensive, but seeing as they are more than $100 less then the next cheapest I found I could live with, I do.

They are even on sale now for $15 off :-)

Do they offer balanced ICs?  (I ask because that page doesn't list balanced.)

I don't think so.  Zybar asked about that in another thread.

So - are you saying G S R  IC's don't make any more?

Unfortunately, Steve isn't offering balanced right now.

However, Gregg Straley does and I am working with him right now on beta testing.

Stay tuned.

The Straley IC's are fine, but cost $100 more for a 1M pair and I don't think you gain anything for that money.  Of course all cabling is system and personal preference dependant so you need to compare in your own system.

Both have a money back trial period.

The SAS's period is 45 days.

I highly recomend the Straley SPEAKER cables.

Steve

Thanks

Thanks for the nice review Marbles. I tried to get rid of any sonic signatures, leaving the ICs very open and balanced. Total capacitance of a 1 meter cable is only approx 40pf.

NOTE: I will be out of the office from Dec 22nd and reopening Jan 2nd, 2006. Any orders thru Dec 20th should be sent out by Dec 22nd.

You can add me to the list of believers.
I received two pairs from Steve to audition along with his upgraded 10A preamp, and I can't overstate how wonderful they sound.

I still think my Poiemas sound excellent. I'd characterize the Poiema as very high resolution, and dig deep to extract the most subtle details without harshness. I've had them for two years and have been very satisfied.

But Steve's cables are simply outstanding. Steve has stated that he is able to "customize" the cables to the system. I don't have any idea how, but they seem to  be ideal in mine. They are the most balanced sounding cable I've used. Nothing seems emphasized, but everything sounds better.

I'd say Steve has hit a home run again.
A fantastic preamp, and now a fantastic cable.
