How much input voltage is required to drive the AKSA's to full output?

Hi David,

Thanks for your email.  I do like your avatar!

This is a damn fine question, which could even prompt me to put it into the instructions.

Gain of both the 55W and the 100W is 38.3, or 31.6dB.

Output into 8R is given by peak to peak output voltage squared, divided by 64.  Thus for 100W, this is 80Vpp, and for 55W, 59.3Vpp.

If we divide these Vpp figures by 38.3, we get 2.09Vpp input for the 100W output, and 1.55Vpp input for the 55W.

Since these are pp figures, you can extract the rms voltage by dividing again by 2root2, or 2.828.  For 100W, this gives an input sensitivity of 0.739 Vrms, while for the 55W, the input sensitivity is 0.547 Vrms.

Hope this is helpful!

Cheers,

Hugh

Thanks Hugh - The full explanation was very interesting an helpful. I can make jumper adjustments for max output levels in my preamp to better suit my amplifiers.

i thought the avitar would be a nice musical reference for an audio BB
