Relay for AKSA 55 power switch, anyone try this?
« on: 29 Apr 2003, 08:31 pm »
Hello,

I would like to implement a remote turn-on for my aksa by sending a 5Vdc turn-on signal from a preamp to the AKSA, and using a relay to switch on the 120VAC.  :D

I found an Omron relay on www.digikey.com that uses a 5V coil at around 185mA, and its SPST-NO switch is rated at 30A@250VAC.

Does this sound like a good choice.  Should I be concerned with relay bounce and using diodes to prevent spikes and such?  If so, could someone please point me in the right directions with that?

Thanks for all your help,

Vinnie

For what it's worth, I'm using a relay in my AKSA-100.  It's a 120V AC DPST-NO, 25AMP coil rating.  Being AC, it plugs directly into my preamp.  With a 5VDC relay, you'll need a transformer.

I'm no expert, but I believe a DPST (dual pole, single throw), is safer than a SPST (single pole, single throw).

MOUSER has a good selection of relays.
