I'm looking for one to A/B two pairs of speakers. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Rat shack has one for 13.00-any good?

You can make this switch yourself with a couple of heavy duty DPDT toggle switches, a chassis box, and some speaker jacks, all available from Radio shack.

The wiring is with the amp input wired to the input of a switch (center lugs) and the outputs from the top and bottom to the appropriate output speaker terminals.

One switch is for left channel, the other for the right channel.  This switches both hot and ground side and avoids tying the grounds together which is a no-no in some configurations.

But buying it prebuilt from Radio Snack is probably cheaper.

I won't say better. I hd an interconnect A/B box from RS some years ago, and it went bad, injecting amazing amounts of noise into the signal - I thought I had an amp melting down. Never again.

Building your own out of high quality paddle switches (try digikey), 10A or better, is often reasonable. Buying pro speaker switches is generally not worthwhile; for some reason these run for $60 and up, which is pretty much unforgivable.

Don't use the cute little 3A switches, even if they boast silver contacts. 10A is a bare minimum. Bigger is better. Even then, don't switch under high volume conditions - if you cook the switch contacts, you'll start to see meaningful (=bad) amounts of contact resistance and your speakers will sound like low end Bose in-walls.

Thank you guys for your feedback but as simple as it may seem I can't trust myself with a DIY project of this nature. I believe such a switch can be very tricky(Impedence problems for example) if not properly done . I have visions of smoke rising from my frail JVC-ES1. Therefore I'm resigned to paying for a reliable ready-made A/B switch for 2 pairs of speakers( or more if be the case that a certain recommended brand only offers a switch for more than 2 pairs of spks. Whew!. Any suggestions will be much appreciated. :)

We can do it for you, but it will be expensive, as we will have about three hours of time to first go get the necessary parts, and then drill the chassis box and assemble and wire it up for you as detailed in our previous e-mail.

The cost will likely end up at about $250.00

If you call me at 651-330-9871 I can give you more detailed instructions as to how to do it yourself, and you should do it yourself.
