Has anybody found the best (sonic-wise) rear speakers to match the OB1 front stereo speakers - GB1, TB2+, DB1+, FB1+ ???

Just don't suggest another OB1 pair :O

Hi James,

The CB6 center works quite well because of the same driver compliment.

Yes the CB6 is an ideal centre speaker designed to compliment the OB1 but I'm seeking a recommendation for the rear speakers.

An email response from pmc-speakers website suggested all the hifi-range speakers are similarly voiced but I know the FB1 sounds livelier and more forward than than OB1.

Also is there any benefit of using a floorstander for the rear - both for movie and music if LFE/bass information is redirected/managed separately (subwoofer)?

Hi,

I meant I use two CB6 centers for my back speakers because they match my IB1 rear speakers.
I have always found that the same driver compliment all round gets the best surround result.

Hi James,

Most impressive but somewhat over-specified rear speakers...esp. for home-theatre.

I'm curious how you overcame the Wife Acceptance Factor - those bass traps (?) would be the end of some marriages :O

Thanks again.

Love the stands, James.  Are those Sound Anchors? Sure look like 'em!

Hi,

It is a dedicated listening room so no issue with WAF.

Yes the stands are Sound Anchor on the IB1 and ASC 16 inch tube traps for the CB6.

James,
If you don't mind me asking, what are the dimensions of the room? Do you feel it's big enough for the speakers?

Wow, that's my dream theater--also looks good for surround music, though I'll be starting with DB1s/GB1s in my Condo.

Hi Jethro,

7B's on the LR - 14B on the Center and Sub - 9B on the Surrounds and Backs.

I usually use the SB100 or the XB2 as a sub.

James, Do you feel the 7b are an a noticable improvement over the 4b when driving the IB2's ?

Thanks for the info James.

dan_lo beat me to my next question (i.e. 7B vs 4B).

Hi Dan,

I have found that more power on the IB2's does sound better. It gives the sound a sense of control even at low 'micro' levels. It seems to resolve low level details better.

I am a bit mystified by this because on paper you would assume a 4B would be plenty but I think real world speakers are a lot harder to drive than we think and the extra beef in he bigger amps simply deals with it better.

I remember one audio show I did in Vegas about 4 years ago where I set up a pair of LB1's in a room 15x20 with a pair of 7B's (overkill to say the least) and the sound was incredible.

I hope my 4B is good enough for driving the pair of AB2S, if they ever arrive.  :)  I noticed that PMC has discontinued the line of LB1 speakers now, so I'm glad I went with the AB2S instead.

James, your comment about more power being beneficial, even if the speaker doesn't seem to need it "on paper" makes me think that doubling up two of the channels on my 9B SST to drive the AB2M-C centre channel is definitely something I will have to do.  I remember you telling me that you'd have to make me a special cable.  What does this cable look like?
