Warm up hum

Hi Everyone!
I have my TLPn in one wooden case and the AKSA100n in another.
My mains power is supplied through the back of the amp at the EIC socket
then to the switch. At that point I "Y" off to the xfmr primaries the other
to a EIC cord that exits the rear panel and plugs into a EIC socket at the
back of the TLP. I did this so they would power on from one switch and
have a fuse at the first EIC socket. However I have considerable hum until
the tube warms. Any way around this other than a switch and power cord for each, plus giving the TLP a 10 sec. warm up prior to turning on the amp?
Have a great day!

Thanks
Martin

Hi Martin,
I have the same problem... I think that's just part of the TLP mistique.  It would be nice to find an answer to this problem however, one with zero sonic penalty.

I have seperate enclosures and seperate power cords + switches for everything, so when I think about it, I switch on the TLP first; when I forget, I get hum.  Two minutes into the music, though, I've ususally forgotten about the hum...  :D

Hi Martin,

I must admit that hum at switch-on is one of the casualties of the minimalist approach used in the TLP design.  It is not an issue for the GK-1, however.

You can banish it by installing a timed relay at the output of the TLP, shorting it to earth until the filament comes on song.

This is fiddly, but it fixes the problem.

Cheers,

Hugh

Thanks Peter
Thanks Hugh
Seeing that I'm down to one module, with one on the repair bench,
any further work is on hold.
I think I've had enough adventure for a while. I'll probably just seperate the two completly and just let the TLP warm a few seconds before turning on
the amp. I'tll be like a religeous ritual of sorts.
Eventually I'll tire of this and get on to another AKSA kit...someday.
I'm still open for other options if anyone has one.
  Thanks all...I've learned alot here.
