I have the SD-4960 and love the sound but I have and am continuing to find out all of the functional shortcomings of the unit.  Now I am having this popping coming over the speakers when accessing and right before tracks start.

I haven't been able to find many reviews on the DV-588a but the few I have seem to think it sounds outstanding and is functionally very sound.  I would like to see or hear from more people who have this unit and/or have had the 4960.  If it offered more functionality I would strongly consider getting one of these for the money!!

Hello I had a 3960. It sounded pretty darn good..better modded. It had some software issues where it wouldn't play certain disc.

I now use a Pioneer 578A. It is a much better built machine. No software issues. The transport is rock solid..no problems what so ever. I haven't spent any time with the unmodded version as mine is modified.
I only use it as a transport now, since the Audio Sector Dac is leagues better in every regard. I listen mainly to redbook and DVD concerts. So I can't be of much help with the SACD section.

If it were my money I would save the money and order the Dac. My buddy went nuts over this little Dac. He prefers it to his Arcam FMJ DV27(when he bought it new it was $2600)..one hell of a player by any standard. No hype ..the dac is really that good.

Here's the website. http://www.audiosector.com
You will have to scroll down the main page and go to the news about the Dac.Or to get a quick look at the no frills version like mine without a chassis go herehttp://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=21829&start=0

Again I have no stake in the company. The quality of sound coming from this Dac is simply amazing! I can't wait to try an active pre infront of it in my system. I think this will take it to even higher levels.

Equipment like this Dac will make you think twice about spending more and if you have spent more. You'll be more careful the next time around.

I had another audiophile friend over tonight to listen. He ask me if I had a different version of a Alison Krauss cd that we both own. I asked him why.He said because I hear things in this recording that I haven't heard before.

GHM,

Not much of a DIYer are they going to offer a ready to go version v.s. the kit?  Maybe this is the reason for the low price point you are referring to. Wouldn't mind looking into one if it was RTG.   :D
