My 841 doesn't seem to pass the HDCD signal to my Marantz 8400, which decodes HDCD. My old Sony does.  Any one else try with HDCD? I've tried switching bitstream, pcm, pcm downconversion and nothing. What is pcm downconversion for anyway?

Hey Gprro,

I have the 4960 but how do you have it hooked up to your receiver?  The 4960/841 don't have HDCD so the only way it can be passed on to your receiver to be decoded is through the digital out. Analogs can't be decoded.  Hope this helps.   :D

Gprro,

No luck huh.  I have a HDCD player and I have an RX-F10 JVC which doesn't have HDCD decoding.  When I use the 4960 instead of the Harman Kardon I can't hear any discernable difference in audio.  They both sound outstanding.  I'm curious now so I will do some checking around as well to see if there's a reason this is happening.  Any info I will report back!   :D

Cool, thanks. My 841 is a manufacture refurb, so I'm curious too if it should be passing the HDCD signal. Still sounds good, although definately a little lighter in the bass than normal with  HDCD material. Conversely, it's bass is a little better with non HD stuff than my other Sony transport, so I think it is affecting just a little. Maybe? I have a big sub system, so it's probably a little more apparent than normaly would be.
