Good portable speakers?
« on: 19 Nov 2005, 08:18 pm »
I'm headed to Paris for my spring term and want to have somewhat good sound. I'm all set in terms of headphones, but i was thinking of bringing a sonic impact and some small speakers - are their good portable speakers?

obviously i'm not expecting to be blown away, but maybe just something semi - decent?

cheers

The Bose Acoustic Wave Music system is pretty amazing.  It is also heavy, big and expensive.  You can get a travel case, $150.00 and a 12volt battery for another 150.00 but you have the best Boom Box I have ever heard.  It will last you at least 10 years...I would check ebay or buy it new

I just looked at ebay for completed auctions and I saw one go for 345.00 with the case.  That is a STEAL, as long as it doesn't have a blown speaker...  even if you do, repair it.  The one I listen to is like 6-8 years old and it gets turned up to 100% all the time.
I know that people like to trash Bose, fine but this is one big heavy Amazing sounding boom box.  Best of luck.....EBAY it!

As you've already got an SI amp, why not get the NXT based speakers that SI sells? I've not tried the SI speakers, but I have played with the little SI "Stick-on Sound Pads" that Target sells.

Or why not just get the SI sound pads http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/sr=2-1/qid=1132434572/ref=sr_2_1/601-3924958-4379324?%5Fencoding=UTF8&asin=B0001HKVKQ

For $20 & a pair of stiff pieces of cardboard (somewhere in the 1' x 2' to 2' x 3' range) it's really hard to beat. You'll be damn surprised at how clean those things sound. You don't get too much bass out of them. But I doubt you'd care as the rest of their performance is quite amazing...
