I am thinking of adding rotary switches in my Bugle for 'on the fly' selection of gain and cartridge loading. It would be very similar to the Bugle pro in approach.

Questions I have: at high gain will the Hagtech power supply, which resides in the same enclosure, cause noise issues...and does adding extra gee-gaws in the circuit like this diminish the detail or space of the sound?

Basically I'm curious if there is any reason NOT to do this, as it would sure make swapping a vaiety of carts FUN.

Thanks gang........

It always helps to put a little distance between power supply and high gain circuits.  If you stack the boards, or have them side by side, there can be a little hum introduced at the higher gains.  Distance is our friend.  Just a few inches can make the difference.  Also, be careful with input wiring and grounding.  Coaxial cables provide better shielding.

Adjustable loading should be straightforward.  You may want to shield it, though.  Gain is another issue.  The gain setting resistors are right in the tight feedback loops of the opamps.  You don't really want to mess with these very sensitive nodes.  Any wire length added will likely lead to instability and oscillations.  Basically, you cannot remote the gain resistors.  Not with this particular circuit, anyway.

jh :)
