In the neverending attempts to amuse myself, I went ahead and modeled these over a few lunch hours.

What woods are those?   They look sharp.

Stained Japanese tamo.

I suppose the neat thing is when I finish building my theater I can swap out finishes until I find one I like, then place my order.

I had my heart set on Piano gloss black but I'm sure Jim would rather I went with something else. :-)

We'll see.

Japanese Tamo! I like that. That's what I'm getting but with a gray stain.

I'm new to this particular forum software... is there any way to rename the gallery I've created or am I stuck with untitled? Thanks!

Chirpie,
Very nice.  I am in the same boat with "trying" to decide what finish to choose, what sofware are you using to build these?

Thanks in advance for your time.

Regards,
Jeff

I initially learned it to model the theater I wanted to build. I got my company to buy it for me and now I use it at work. A pretty stiff learning curve if you've never modeled before, but I enjoy using it. I like it. ^_^

If there's a flat wood sample you ever want to "wrap", let me know and I can throw it on there. At least give you an idea anyway.

Mine will have a piano black baffle but those will look very nice in my home theater.

Thanks,

Actually, the pearl grey tamo ash looks very much like your virtual speakers.  I'll have some photos in a few days as I expect to finish them up on Monday.

Here's little taste of another pair that will go out on Wednesday using a very similar technique.

In this case, it was a special dye I mixed up to match a color photo of painted speakers supplied by the client.  I suggested that rather than painting the speakers, he go with a nice figured maple and dye them the color he wanted.  He trusted me enough to let me do it. Pics coming shortly...

If you insist...

And here is a close up of the font baffle...

And a shot of the side panel - Japanese Tamo Ash dyed with Pearl Grey analine dye...

Ask and you shall receive!

Wow, those are beautiful!  Congrats to both Jim and Joe!

Unlike my normal preference for a satin finish, that looks like one veneer/baffle combination that I might really like in a gloss...

It looks like there is a bit of gradient toward the edges of the speaker that make for a really neat effect.   Is that real, or a trick of the photo?

Ok... I'll ask for some pictures of a really attractive set of Bubinga speakers that I hear are in the works! :D

WOW!!!

Jim each time you create something new and exotic I think that it can't be better than the last pair, yet it almost is!   :thumb:

I can't wait for them to arrive at Joe's house and to go over and help him set them up.

Great job Jim.

It is real.  I sprayed more dye on the corners to achieve that effect.

Crickey, now I really want to get that theater finished (building currently).

This waiting is killing me. Back to the basement I go to install some more trim. ^_^
