How can you get a Passive setup W\Digital?
« on: 8 Nov 2005, 05:31 pm »
Here is what I would like to do:

First I would like to have a Passive Pre-Amp that I can have for 2ch. Playback so that I do not have all the electronics in the way for Redbook CDP's and my Vinyl section.

Secondly,I want to have my Mulit Channel playback so that I can swith over in order to enjoy all other formats like SACD ,Movies etc.

How would you propose I do it?

Next year ,after the new year I think I'll have enugh to pay for whatever I really want. I already have my Multi Speakers and am just using a Panny 45 at the moment,but I will be selling that off probably or else put it in a Motorhome or some other place.

Any ideas?

A few yrs. ago I did had a Passive setup which was the best for being musicly involving.

You simply need a pre-amp with a HT bypass, and an AVR with preamp outputs (or a AV PrePro and an external amp).

I am using an Odyssey Tempest Pre Amp, Outlaw 970 PrePro, and external amps.  Works very well.  The PreAmp sits between the PrePro and the amps, but only for the Left and Right channels.  When in HT mode, the signal simply passes straight thru the PreAmp, such that the volume knob is bypassed (the pre-amp does not even need to be turned on).  For 2 channel, simply attach the analog outputs of the source(s) to the back of the PreAmp, bypassing the AVR/PrePro.  You can even attach one source, such as a DVD that is used to also play CDs,  to both the AVR/PrePro(via coax or fiber optic) and PreAmp (RCA cables).

DVD---> AVR/PrePro---> PreAmp ------> Amps
CD------------------------> PreAmp  ------> Amps
