Mappa burl to be more specific.  It's a form of poplar.

That veneer is gorgeous!  I now almost regret going with cherry.  

...Although, the cherry does nicely match my "listening futon"  :mrgreen:

Mappa Burl is one of my favorite veneers, in fact I am considering using it to veneer my Arvo Pärt speakers, but I am not there yet.  These are no exception, they look great.  Eton drivers are very popular in Europe and starting to gain popularity here in the US.  They have a nice sound, and I am sure this pair is of no exception.
