How Best to Cut Amp gain to match receiver?
« on: 7 Nov 2005, 06:36 pm »
I have a problem with the modded Flying Moles I'm using in my system on the front speakers - since I bypassed the volume pot, I have no way of cutting the amps' power. This is an issue since my front speakers are a lot more sensitive than the rest of my speakers (6.1 setup), and my receiver (used as a preamp) doesn't have enough adjustment to bring the rest of the speakers up to the same level as the fronts. I can think of two solutions:
1) insert an attenuator on the preamp outputs before the Moles to bring their level down to the level of the other speakers.
2) re-connect the volume pot (but they sound so much better without it).

I don't have the option of replacing the other speakers with more sensitive ones at this point. So what would degrade the sound less, an attenuator, or the stock volume pots?
