Squeezebox wireless connection problem!
« on: 6 Nov 2005, 06:21 pm »
My SB2, which has been operating flawlessly on my wireless network suddenly won't connect. The access point is fine as the laptop connects and shows a strong stable signal, but the SB2 can't find it now. When I check the wireless signal strength in the settings menu it is steady when in another room from the access point but constantly swings from about 96% to 0% when in the same room (as the access point).

                                    help!

Try power cycling the SB2 and/or your computer.

I've power cycled the SB2, rebooted the computer, checked the access point settings, etc., nothing works. I can connect via ethernet cable, just not wireless. I think I'm going to have to send it back. :(

I haven't figured out exactly what causes it, but occassionally I get a message that the SB2 finds a Slimserver name already in use, and it gets renamed (in my case, eg.: iMac-8 gets renamed as iMac-9, etc).  So I usually have to do something in the network setup to re-connect.

Not sure what causes it yet, but it has something to do with when I re-boot my computer or something like that...

Squeezebox wireless connection problem! (Solved)

I contacted tech support today and the guy knew exactly what was wrong. The first thing he asked was did the MAC address printed on the bottom of the Squeezebox match what was showing in the settings menu. It did not! I had rolled back the firmware to the previous version because it was thought to sound better than the new firmware version, possibly related to the volume curve. There is a thread about this in this circle. One of the reasons for the new firmware update was to eliminate a bug that caused the players MAC address to spontaniously change, which is what happened to me. As mentioned, the MAC address is printed on the bottom of the player and so all I had to do was change it back, which can be done in the set up menu under settings.
Whew! I thought for sure I was going to have to send it back for repair!
