Again with the misrepresentations! What is it with this guy?
For twenty-five years I've been a VMPS owner. I have not one, not
two, but three pairs in my house right now. At the top, FF-1s.
Geez Luiz!

No, what was not my cup of tea (and I was not going to get
into this, but after being called a charlatan... well...) was the
thin digital sound provided by Sony and Bryston electronics, a
distressing sound that was unameliorated by any of the usual fixes.
(I attribute that ...

So, not only can't Scott hear properly, but his system is all wrong. I bet he'll be wearing ashes and sackcloth tonight...

What's this "thin digital sound" anyway?

Machina Dynamica explanation
It's true that Machina Dynamica's explanation might not be the same as the manufacturer's.  Depends how you interpret the manufacturer's explanation and how you interpret Machina Dynamica's.  Which explanation can I get you to sign up to?   GK

Neither one seems very likely.

Do you consider them to be equally valid? (Or of equal worth anyway, since their validity is questionable.)

I have found this thread amazingly entertaining!!

Quote
You had your chance, sir. The Chip was in your hand to try. You
passed on it. I confess I was astonished at the evident lack of
curiosity.

Let me ask you this? What would you do if  i was to hand you a small stone-like object aroung the size of a marble. Then I told you that its a magic
rock and if you swallow it you will be able to fly!! What would you do? huh??

I am sure he felt like you handed him a "magic" rock.

So when is this showdown happening? Need any extra ears?

I'd say you eat it first....

That's such a bad analogy for many reasons.

I still don't understand why Scott didn't listen to it when he had the chance.
What would have been the harm?  It would have only taken a small amount of time on his part...it takes what, 2-3 seconds for it to work?

So you listen to a track, or even part of a track, do the chip thing for 2 seconds and play the track again.

We did warn Clark that Scott is CLOSED MINDED though, so it's no surprise to me or anyone who's read Scotts posts that he wouldn't even listen to it.

Why is try it in front of me a bad arguement?

I'll see VERY quickly if it works and if there are side effects.

He had it in his hand, why not try it?

Please tell me why my arguement is bad.

That really wouldn't be a valid test.  To perform a valid (or quasi-valid) test, you'd have to have two CDPs hooked up and running copies of the same disk.  The CDPs would have to have the exact same interconnects.  You'd have to put the chip on one and not on the other, then switch back and forth.  Any other test really is of limited use -- short term memory isn't that good.  I've had a hard time determining differences between DACs even when able to switch back and forth between two of them.  When I played one for a song, then switched to the other for a song, I couldn't tell the difference.

Perhaps Scott isn't closed minded and, instead, likes a scientific explanation for this?

Maybe...maybe he could have done a preliminary test to see if "he thought" he detected a difference.  If none, then no need to go farther.

If he did hear something then he could do a more thorough test.

To not do anything but say F'ck it, it CAN'T work when he had an opportunity to try it is closed minded IMO.

Now, if he had to order it and pay for postage, or return postage, or go to ANY trouble besides a cursery listen, I could understand...Heck, I'm not going to listen to it, but if someone brought one over for me to try, I would try it.

my point is if someone hands me something costing $60 claiming it breaks the laws of physics I would not even be curious.

And neither was Scott...and the lack of curiousity I would define as closed minded, so we are in agreement on that.

"Do you consider them to be equally valid?"

I consider the Machina Dynamica explanation the overriding one.
