A little advice please!

I'm awaiting the arrival of a new 12 wpc tube amp.My current speakers
are rated 8 ohm, 90 db at 1watt.I'm pretty happy with them. The only thing
they lack is deep bass, which I miss.Should I get a subwoofer to lessen the power demand on the amp,and augment the bass,or get a more efficient set of speakers that have better bass?

M&K makes very good active subs. Check audiogon for their listing. Might get one pretty cheap.

I'll have to agree with Charles, the M&K's I've heard are very good for the money.  For 4-500 you can have a decent sub which will help the rest of your system alot.

Owning a pair of M&K subs I can agree with Charles & Warner as well. For the $400-$500 or so range (used) you should be able to find a V-125 or V-1250. A little less than that $ amount would probably find you a V-75. But I think I'd stick with either the 125 or 1250 unless you wanted to spend more $

12 watts is not much power especially for frequencies below 100 Hz. Like the other responders, I would recommend a sub. This will give you much more headroom as the volume increases. Check out the sub Rick at Selah has for sale. He has a circle here.

I don't know about the M&K subs, but as a general rule you need to make sure of which connection method for the sub does what, since one of your stated goals is to reduce demands upon the main amp. Different manufacturers' subs handle it differently: Some roll off bass from the sats when hooked up by rca connections, while others keep the bass from the sats when hooked up by speaker wire. (This ignores other cases where the sub has a proprietary hookup method or doesn't filter any low frequencies at all.)

Also, I think it's hard for anyone to know if a sub will help the sound versus a new pair of speakers without some idea of what the main speakers are currently.

gday!
let's use sub! it'll make your home audition absolutely valuable.
any sub's has a few type of connectors, don't worry about it.
I'm using sub not more 80 Hz and don't loose sound picture as well.
