Hi,
I currently have my componnents on the cheap rack. It's shaking every time i slighty push again the rack. So i'm thinking of placing my gears on the floor (or top of piece of wood) or buying a new racK?

  Which one do you recommend?

thanks.

Bare floor, carpet?
Floor subject to movement when walking?
Down firing subwoofer?
Turntable?
Are you trying to isolate each component from others?

Lots of questions to be answered before usefull suggestions can be made

sorry for not giving full description.

I see some people put each of their componnent on a piece of wood which sits on the carpeted floor. I  like to do the same thing, but i don't know if it is worst or better.

My gears:  pre-amp, amp, CD player, power conditioner . If i want to use the rack, which one do you recommend? (not too expensive one though :)

thanks.

I use cinderblocks, with pine boards over them, and I cover the whole thing with burlap for appearance's sake. Other than the fact that it looks a little too much like a black altar to heathen gods, it works well.

My belief is, if the room is vibrating enough to shake a cinderblock, it's probably not doing my ears any good.

If you have a solid concrete floor with/without carpeting, then use wooden blocks for each component sitting on the floor.

If you have a creeky, springy wooden floor, buy a decent, welded steel audio rack.

There, that wasn't so bad, now was it?

The floor is concrete with carpet. I couldn't find any thich wood block at homedepot or lowes. Do you think stacking a couple of wood blocks will do?

thanks.

There are a lot of good racks available that don't wobble so. The taller that any rack is, the more it will flex, but there are still some quite solid racks with up to five shelves. Look at the better speacialty audio shops.

There are a lot of advantages to using a rack other than the obvious space-saving. You keep the cables shorter, you can ground to a single point easily and distribute power easily, the units each have their own space, etc. You can get racks that have some form of isolation or that are very ridgid or a combination of both. Adjustable shelves are nice for those that are always trying new stuff, but not totally necessary.

I will use three  Sanus EFAB II amp stands for my new system (a Bolder-supermodded Squeezebox2 and a pair of Stello M200 mono amps), on the floor behind the speakers. I had an old model Sanus rack (similar but wider) filled with buckshot and sitting on pointed spikes and it was very solid. The new ones have a much better finish and they still are dirt cheap.
