Ulas    I was briefly on the Take Five website and looked at their Belden  star quad DIY instructions. This reminds me of Ernie's DIY p/c recipe at Audiogon. I don't mind the extra work regarding the externally wrapped ground wire and the prices are all reasonable except for the Oyaide plugs.....$115 each...gimme a break. I am presuming the Belden wire is stranded and not solid. I didn't quite follow regarding the external ground wire. That is supposed to be combined with the internal ground wire and both connected to both plugs, correct? I would appreciate comments from others as I was going to go with the Volex and P & S and maybe the Schurter IEC to keep it simple and cheap. Is the star quad that much better than a Volex with the P & S and Schurter??

Nick,

All prices on the Take Five website are in Canadian. I have been dealing with Gene @ Take Five for years and he is a very good guy to deal with.

I just DIY built 4 PC's from materials purchased from Gene for my front end. I was using VH Audio PC's but they were very stiff & I had trouble properly routing them.

Connectors - Furutech rhodium FI-15E & FI-15ME (excellent connector & easy to install)
Wire - 14g Vampire CCC, cryo treated, 3 legs

Construction - Take H & N wires (whatever length) and tightly twist together. Next, tightly wrap those with pink teflon plumbers tape. Next loosely counter spiral wrap ground wire. Cover bundle in your choise of tech- flex. Apply silver paste to wire ends & terminate with plugs.

Makes a great sounding PC - doesnt cost an arm & leg!

Remember, he is the guy who recommenced using a breaker GFCI to protect people and equipment down stream from his balanced power conditioner. I don’t think Occam knows anything about electricity.

Why all the hate?  Moderator envy?  IIRC, Occam qualified any statements regarding gfci's by his inexperience with them and to investigate their proper use further.  That's not to say that someone couldn't maliciously take a phrase from his post out of context to make him appear inept.
