Hi folks, I would like to know if some of you can tell the differences between the NuForce and eAR ICEpower amps in terms of sonics. I own the eAR 1001 ICEpower monoamps and like the sound. The NuForce has been receiving very favourable reviews recently which have augmented my curiosity towards it's sonical merits. And it is also possible that there are sonic differences between the two although both (NuForce and ICEpower) are incorporating switching technologies into their amplifier design.

I have only heard ICEpower amps and I have to say that I was impressed. I am a class A, tube amp kinda guy, and I honestly didn't expect to like the sound at all. I was expecting a colder, sterile, flat, dimensionless sound, but after hearing the ICEpower amps (Red Dragon Audio monos), I want a pair. I heard the 100 watt and the 500 watt versions and I was very impressed with both. I wouldn't mind hearing the NuForce amps as well, but I doubt anyone in the Utah area has a pair.

I have some NuForce Ref. 9's that should be here Friday.  I stumbled across the following message on Agon:

I love the NuForce product. They have competed well in my showroom against a Parasound Halo A51 and Krell 400 cx on both Dynaudio Contour 5.4s as well as VMPS RM40's. We might be limited in where we can ship the demo amps, but if you are interested in a demo of the Reference 9s dazzdax send me a PM and I'll see what I can arrange (Tyler and I work together).

I will advocate you try both amps in your system if possible.  Even though I might tout the Nuforce amps because I'm a dealer, everyone has different tastes and systems.  Ultimately, the best way to compare is in your own setup.  Different strokes for different folks.

That said, I haven't listened to the ICEpower amps and have no basis for comparison.  I've heard good things about them, and I know other AC members have used them in their system.  Hopefully they'll chime in.  You can find my comments on the Reference 9 posted in the Nuforce circle.
