I have the above sitting around and it seems to have bit the dust as it were. Is there any worth in having it checked out and fixed? The last time I used it I remember it being a very good unit.

I have one of these or the Mk. II version, I can't remember which, and it was not a bad CD player for the money in it's day. Whether it's worth reparing depends on whether one is hoping to just break even on selling it, or if one wants to keep it for a second system or as a spare.
