It would cost upwards of $1000 to ship these speakers.

I know already that a single 45 will drive them very nicely at 1.8 watts

I would love to do a road trip to the Big Apple, with the "Locomotive". But its just not gonna happen anytime soon. My next road trip will be with my son, looking at colleges. Maybe not as much fun!

I'm nowhere near the Big Apple. About 4 hours north. Tell you what, if you plan on looking at Suny Binghamton University, it's about 3 miles from my place. Also about 10 minutes from McIntosh Labs.

In all seriousness though, had I met you SET/horn maniacs a few years earlier I'd probably be listening to some Lowthers now with a 1 watt mega amp. But alas, I was already on the Quest for the Holy Grail and I have to play it out to the last biamp, crossover upgrade, fuse bypass, RF choke, bypass cap, mye stand bloody great gig in the sky.

When I think I've hit the wall with this, I'll no doubt see the light and settle for a simpler means of sonic bliss. Right now, though, I'm past the point of no return.

Do you have any "power" there? They will sound okay with 8 watts but can handle 200 watts of kick ass KT88 power. If you have something around 20-30 tube watts, that would do it.

They ain't pretty as they were finished outdoors on a 45 degree day just to get a coating on them.

Or, we can wait till I transfer all the "pieces" into a nice set of cabinets so you can also comment on the finish. Maybe that would be better?

I'm game. Got plenty of power here as long as the Bella's aren't too tough a load on an amp. I've got the modded Radii's running KT88s. They are putting out between 75 and 100 wpc (I'm running them pretty cool).

Give me some time though, I've got at least three months of gear stacked up right now but I'd definately like to hear them (as I'm sure the other guys would too).

Okay, it's Henry again bragging about his Willie 45 PP amp.

It just gets better and better. I was happy with the improvement in February when I got the WE 417a's and before that with some cap substitutions. This latest tweak has really made Willie's amp world class in every way.

Willie kindly recommended the proper interstage transformer upgrade from Electraprint. A few weeks ago I got on the phone with Jack Elano and told him I had one of Willie's toys. We discussed the old Wurlitzer Music System chassis that this amp is based on and we talked a little about output transformers. And of course, I bought a pair of those as well. With the current price of silver, I couldn't go with the silver wound secondaries, but Jack fixed me up with two very nice OPTs and a pair of ITs (albeit, the version for the great unwashed). He was so accomodating and wound the OPTs for 6 ohms so the amp would mate with my new Horn Shoppe Model 2's (4 ohm load) as well as the 8 ohm varieties. I fact, he told me a little story of how he had the design revelation for the OPTs. Although I don't fully grasp the technical aspect of its design, I do understand that this OPT is unique.

So, yesterday I had a box of transformers on my porch and I was surprised that Jack could make them so quickly. I installed them tonight after carefully deciphering the pencil-drawn hook up schematics for the transformers (as it somehow should be).

Without subjecting readers to a lengthy poor accounting of the sound, I'll simply say that I notice more transparency and detail resolution. The bass is more accurate in attack and decay, and it's more extended. The highs are beautiful. The improvement was obvious (another three-note moment). The amp was a keeper and now it's better. I couldn't be more content with my original purchase and the upgrades.

One question I have for you experts. The four transformers now reside in a line having the same orientation. Should I alternate their postions 90 degrees, or 45 degrees? They're all concealed under a cover, so appearance isn't an issue.
