should I wait to upgrade..?

Until recently I've had no desire to upgrade my SP1 to an SP1.7.
With the recent addition of an Arcam DV29 to my system I've been
hashing around the idea of upgrading the SP1 to take advantage of DVD-A. -Apparently, the SP1.7 will soon be upgraded. Should I wait for the SP1.7 replacement or do you folks think upgrading will require that my unit be an SP1.7?  --- that make any sense?

--- I'm new here, but I'm a long time Bryston fan.
Five 7Bst in the house and a 6bst too.

Hi Mate,

From what I've read, the SP1 will be able to be upgraded to SP2 spec in one go, so I guess it is a question of whether you want to send your unit away once or twice - and I guess that depends on where you're based as it has to go back to Canada. For me being from the UK, I would wait to do it all in one go but you may be just down the road from the factory  :)

Hi Jimbo,

If you're making the decision based solely on DVD-A, I'd make sure that there's enough interesting software on that format to justify the decision. I've invested in both SACD and DVD-A sofware and hardware. I think that both are wonderful formats. However, DVD-A seems to have pretty much stopped production and SACD is carrying on only as a niche format. Fortunately, SACD is carrying on in niches that I care about like classical and jazz.

All that said, your Arcam is a superior DVD-A player. Sometimes, you hate to see things go to waste.  :)

Regards,
Erik

While DVD-A releases might have stopped a lot of things have come out on dual disc recently where one side is DVD-A and the other redbook CD.

Cheers
