I think the real tragedy in this is that Music Direct thinks they're doing us a real favor by reducing only the $25.99 discs by a whole $0.99 on lots of 4 discs. If they really want to move some of these discs, they should discount them more than that.
I'm disturbed by the trend to jack up prices as soon as there are rumors that something will be discontinued. Case in point was the recent price GOUGING on the Rolling Stones SACDs as soon as word got out that Avco was going back to standard redbook for them. Avco was not exactly on the up and up either, the Stones redbook CDs proclaim "Remastered in DSD" on the covers, but don't have any SACD logos anywhere else on them, and in fact these discs in standard CD jewel cases are just that, standard redbook discs. I got one from Tower Records online, because the folks in their shipping department thought it was the SACD I ordered. Tower did make good on my return of the disc for a store credit, but even the record store folks are confused by the packaging.
I'm glad there are still some really great music deals out there, like the RCA Living Presence SACDS.
Geez, what was wrong with my earlier thread on this topic here in The Music Circle?
