Just finishing Bass Trap. Question on the diffusor.
« on: 26 Sep 2005, 02:26 pm »
Hi,
I have just finished building 4 bass traps (4" thick) at 4 corners of the room. The bass is now so much better than ever before. However, i recognize that the upper mid/high is a little dead like i used to hear, even though it's not much difference. Should i just build 2 more diffusor along the side walls ?
Any idea of how ?

thanks.

If you put stiff paper, cardboard or thin lauan playwood over your bass traps, they will reflect the highs but continue to absorb much of the bass. By covering part or all of the traps, you can fiddle with how much reflects and how much absorbs. When you get something you like, cover the whole thing with burlap for appearance's sake.

too bad, i have already cover bass trap with burlap. Looks like i will have to cover another burlap over the cardboard if i decide to do that way. Thanks for the advice.

Yes, I agree to ScottMayo.

Personally, I've tried convex diffusor, full range or not so far ...

Biggerst is more efficient.

Scott's idea is as good as it gets.  It's taken months for me to tweak out my bass traps and reflection points for the best balance.  Be patient and take your time listening for a period of time to alot of different music before changing things.  You'll get it right and your room will sound better than maybe any other place you know of.  I've not heard better than my own system in my room.
