CORNET 2 RESISTORS

Hi,
does somebody believes that if I change R201, R204, R208, R212, R214 and R219 stock signal resistors to better quality ones like Tantalums will be a significative sound upgrade or just a waste of money?

I don't think it will make any difference. The resistors are relative shorts compared with the rest of the circuitry. Their purpose is only to damp parasitic RF oscillations when connecting to the tube pins (lead inductance, gyration, etc.). Circuit would probably sound the same using wire jumpers.

Ok, R204 might have some effect.

thank you very much for your reply. By the way, I will like to ask you if there are another part of the circuit which have some great effect in the sound quality? ( I know about the signal caps C203 and C208, you also advise about C200 and C206 on the instruction manual).

Invest in tubes. You could easily pour money into every component, and then keep on adding. New feet, tube dampers, power cords, paint, etc.

All of this has been covered many times before. There must be a way to do a search?

thank you again for your reply. I have done a previuos search in the forum, before I posted, but there were a thing or two that remain unclear. Now they are all clear.
Yes, since I have a SET amp, I know that tubes will be a major upgrade; actually, I have get Telefunken 12AX7 and 12AU7 for my phono pre proyect with my NOS dealer. All these questions, and my previous, are in order to understand how the circuit works finally.

Hi Beto,
FWIW, the Cornet is my all-time favourite best-buy would-never-part-with-it bit of stereo equipment. Amps & speakers come & go, Linn LP12 is regularly in bits, pesky thing. The Cornet just sits there doing its job.

Mine's bog-standard apart from the output coupling caps - originally I used cheap polys, changed them for Auricaps & then musicaps. The change made no discernable difference to me despite the tenfold increase in cost. I don't even know what the resistors are! Most of them came out of spares I had to hand.

I suspect it's just a good circuit & it doesn't need trick parts to deliver excellent results. Maybe your ears are better than mine and you'll appreciate the difference. You can be confident it'll sound great when it's finished.

Hi Tone Deaf,
thank you for sharing your experience. I also think that is a good circuit based on all the comments in this forum and the positive feedback wonderful review. Since that review was with the stock parts, I also believes that no need too much for upgraded parts. But you know, as DIY er, is a need to understand how the circuit works and which parts of the circuit are the few candidates to potential upgrades.
