Church microphone system

Our pastor's church mike set-up is being a pain (the clip-on one he uses at the altar falls apart, swooshes, gets CB interference, etc.), and myself and other K of C members are considering replacing the cheap, aged cordless mike setup currently in use. Please post, email, or pm any serious upgrade suggestions.

In advance, thank you for your response.

According to my experience, a wireless lavilier system will work the best.  The carodid mic type is cheaper but more susceptible to head movement. If the pastor moves around a lot and is quite dynamic, a omnidirectional headworn mic type will work the best, which is also more expensive, because it can assue the volume stay constant regardless the head movement.

Go for a high quality wireless rig with a headset mic.  Shure and Sennheiser make a good wireless rigs and the Countryman headset is excellent.  It gives you a lot of gain before feedback and eliminates clothing noise.   Tell your minister the Britney Spears wisecracks from the congregation usually only last a few weeks.

Expect to pay around $500 for the wireless and another $200-300 for the headset mic.  It sounds like a lot, but you don't want the hassle of a cheap wireless rig intermittently cutting out on you.  Your minister is proclaiming God's Word.  What can be more important than that?

I 2nd the wireless headset mic.  Get the small one that follows the curve of the jaw (easier to ignore).
